Knowing with the Heart; Religious Experience & Belief in God. £8.50
Author(s): Clouser Catalogue number: B.1.400
This book is an exciting follow up to Clouser's widely acclaimed 'Myth of Religious Neutrality' in which he critiqued the claim that the academic disciplines and sciences could be neutral with respect to religion. He was then able to put forward a powerful case for the Christian development and re-formation of the scholarly disciplines.

This type of perspectival thinking is often regarded by critics as setting out down the slippery slope to relativism, in which the choices between worldview perspectives is an arbitary subjective choice. So can we KNOW God is really real? Or is belief in God only blind faith or wishful thinking? This book examines the conditions under which experience justifies belief, and finds that belief in God is based on the type of experience that supplies the best sort of justification any belief can have! It is therefore knowledge, not mere belief.

The famous scientist & philosopher Blaise Pascal memorably said that 'the heart has its reason the mind will never know'. But too often it's forgotten that Pascal, in referring to the heart's 'reasons'was not talking about hunches or cosy feelings. Instead he had in mind our intuitive knowledge of 'the first principles of number, time, space, and motion'. And he believed that God could be known in the same way,so that belief in God has the same justification as sscientific & mathematical principles.

Was he right? Roy Clouser develops a broad compelling case for Pascal's position.

Dooyeweerd's critique of theory and its application to Descartes & Heisenberg. £0.50
Author(s): Clouser Catalogue number: D.2.168
The Myth of Religious Neutrality: an essay on the hidden role of religious belief in theories £14.95
Author(s): Clouser Catalogue number: B.1.84
Offers a radical re-interpretation of the general relations of religion, philosophy and science, claiming that science and philosophical theories cannot help but have religious presuppositions that control and regulate them. Clouser argues for a distinctly Biblical perspective for theorising. To demonstrate the role of religion in theorising Clouser provides a casebook of illustrations of theories in mathematics, physics and psychology. He then sets out the parameters for radically biblical theories of reality, society, and the state. Free from jargon but a penetrating work with exciting ideas for Christian scholars in all disciplines.

Intelligent Design:The Bridge Between Science & Theology £13.99
Author(s): Dembski W.A. Catalogue number: D.4.535
The intelligent design movement is three things: a scientific research program for investigating intelligent causes, an intellectual movement that challenges naturalistic evolutionary theories, and a way of understanding divine action. Although the fast-growing movement has gained considerable grassroots support, many scientists and theologians remain sceptical about its merits. Scientists worry that it is bad science (merely creationism in disguise) & theologians worry that it is bad theology (misunderstanding divine action). In this book William Dembski addresses just such concerns & brilliantly argues that intelligent design provides a crucial link between science and theology.
Mere Creation; Science, Faith & Intelligent Design £16.99
Author(s): Dembski W. A. (ed) Catalogue number: D.4.518
For over a century the scientific establishement has ignored challenges to the theory of evolution. But in the last decade such complacency about its scientific & philosophical foundations hs been shaken. As cracks in the Darwinian edifice have begun to appear, many are asking whether a defensible alternative exists.

In response a movement has emerged among scholars exploring intelligent design as an explanatory theory in scientific descriptions of the universe. As Michael Behe has proposed in his landmark 'Darwin's Black Box' at the cellular level there appears to be a high level of irreducible complexity that suggests design.

In this book Behe is joined by 18 other expert academics trained in mathematics, engineering, philosophy, anthropology, physics, astrophysics, biology, ecology & evolutionary biology to investigate the prospects for this emerging school of thought. Challenging the reigning ideology of materialistic naturalism on both scientific & philosphical grounds, these scholars press the case for a radical rethinking of established evolutionary assumptions.

(See also William A. Dembski 'The Design Inference; Eliminating Chance through small probabilities' (Cambridge University Press,1998).We intuitively recognise the difference between products of design from the products of natural forces. Philosopher/mathematician Dembski has sought to formulate logical criteria by which we can distinguish between chance/law/design when we seek to explain natural phenomena.

'Your Labour is not in vain': Eschatology & Cultural Continuity
Author(s): Donegan-Cross G. Catalogue number: A.1.547
This superb Trinity College/Bristol University theology M.Phil. thesis (2001) will hopefully come out as a book in due course.

It asks: does all the work we put in to cultual development - at homemaking, at work, in politics,at school & college, in the arts, crafts, sports, hobbies & leisure activities, etc - have any eternal significance? Or are these secular things merely of passing significant - unlike the sacred (church, worship, prayer, evangelism, theology, etc) which is assumes to have eternal significance?

Crucial here is a right understanding of the destiny of creation, including human history ,within God's eschatogical purposes.

This thesis aims to show how the biblical story, beginning with creation & the cultural task given to humankind , and leading to the resurrection of creation, affirms both the physical world (militating against dualism) and , most crucially, the eternal significance ofhumanity's role within this world. It concludes that a meaningful approach to culture - a theology of culture - is impossible without the backbone of such a full-blown eschatological hope.

If David Lawrence 'Heaven ..its not the end of the world' & Al Wolters'Creation Regained' have got you thinking then reading this thesis is a must. ON LOAN ONLY
